Performing Arts

Frankston High School’s ever growing Performing Arts program extends from classroom Drama, in Years 7 to 12, with a variety of different Drama subjects being offered in the middle school years to the highly successful school musical that is produced every year.
Drama is a compulsory subject in Year 7; the subject is undertaken for one semester of the year. During this semester students are introduced to a wide variety of fascinating and interesting aspects of drama including an assignment in which students create their own puppets and later perform their own shows with them.

The branch extends in middle school with several different drama subjects being offered in Years 9 and 10. Just some of those subjects are Drama Dance, Drama Acting and Drama Comedy. This allows students to choose the aspect of Drama that is most appealing to them, with many exciting opportunities arising from the classroom. Students work in an engaging environment with their teachers to learn more about the wonderful world of Performing Arts. Frankston High School now offers VCE Drama for those students who have developed a love and passion for Drama and have enjoyed the year 7 and middle school components of the program.

As well as classroom Drama, students can work alongside a dedicated team of teachers each year to put on a school musical. Previous productions include: ‘Fame’, ‘Grease’, ‘High School Musical’, ‘Annie’, Little Shop of Horrors, ‘Suessical’ and ‘Hairspray’. Over the course of the rehearsal period and for the run of the show the production team work together with the close knit cast to choreograph, direct, learn songs and to design & create sets and costumes to ensure the success of the show each year.

The school musical is incredibly welcoming and is a buzzing, happy and fun environment in which students mix with and become friends with other students across all year levels. The school musical is performed to a primary school audience as well as the night performances during the run of the show.

Full houses at all evening performances and the largest audience ever for a matinee, were provided with incredible highly talented performances of our 2019 musical production ‘Legally Blonde’. This production was certainly a tribute to the many staff and students who devoted countless hours in rehearsals honing their talents to an exceptional level.. Involvement in the production certainly engenders a positive sense of belonging to our great school. It is a fantastic cross age learning experience where the older students care for their younger peers. The theme of the production was about the importance of following your dreams.

FAME is a story of young people discovering who they are, whilst overcoming challenges, giving their best always to develop their talents to an exceptional level.  This is what our actors, dancers, singers, backstage team, and student musicians did to an exceptional level and, as a result, they were living their dream through this amazing season of performances.  Such show- stopping performances are a tribute to our staff who have inspired our young people to be the best they can be.  We are indebted to our talented staff   who played significant roles in this incredible production.

Our 2017 musical production ‘Rock of Ages’ theme was about the importance of following your dreams. We are truly grateful to every staff member who helped create set, source costumes, construct staging, repair props, donate equipment, assist with front of house, and of course come to support the students at the show. It has been great to see the happiness this event has brought to so many students.
