Frankston High School’s ever growing Performing Arts program extends from classroom Drama, in Years 7 to 12, with a variety of different Drama subjects being offered in the middle school years to the highly successful school musical that is produced every year.
Drama is a compulsory subject in Year 7; the subject is undertaken for one semester of the year. During this semester students are introduced to a wide variety of fascinating and interesting aspects of drama including an assignment in which students create their own puppets and later perform their own shows with them.
The branch extends in middle school with several different drama subjects being offered in Years 9 and 10. Just some of those subjects are Drama Dance, Drama Acting and Drama Comedy. This allows students to choose the aspect of Drama that is most appealing to them, with many exciting opportunities arising from the classroom. Students work in an engaging environment with their teachers to learn more about the wonderful world of Performing Arts. Frankston High School now offers VCE Drama for those students who have developed a love and passion for Drama and have enjoyed the year 7 and middle school components of the program.
As well as classroom Drama, students can work alongside a dedicated team of teachers each year to put on a school musical. Previous productions include: ‘Fame’, ‘Grease’, ‘High School Musical’, ‘Annie’, Little Shop of Horrors, ‘Suessical’ and ‘Hairspray’. Over the course of the rehearsal period and for the run of the show the production team work together with the close knit cast to choreograph, direct, learn songs and to design & create sets and costumes to ensure the success of the show each year.
The school musical is incredibly welcoming and is a buzzing, happy and fun environment in which students mix with and become friends with other students across all year levels. The school musical is performed to a primary school audience as well as the night performances during the run of the show.
