Shion graduated from Frankston High School in 2018. In Year 10, he spent six months on exchange in Japan where he built lifelong friendships and a connection to the country that has stayed with him since.

After finishing school, Shion took a deliberate path into the workforce rather than heading straight to university. 

He started in direct sales before joining Designer Journeys, then an early-stage travel technology startup, during COVID, where he has since grown into a senior leadership role as Head of Agent Success. He now leads the Agent Success function, driving engagement, performance and growth across a global network of over 10,000 travel agents.

Alongside his career, Shion completed a Bachelor of International Business and a Diploma of Marketing and Communications at RMIT University, and returned to Japan professionally through an internship with the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) in Tokyo.

Outside work, Shion sits on the board of the Australia Japan Business Council of Victoria, contributing to business and cultural ties between the two countries.

Shion came back in 2026 and spoke to Years 9 and 10 students who are studying Japanese.
